Kybella Chevy Chase Cosmetic Center

Recently, Chevy Chase Cosmetic Center became one of the first practices in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area to use Kybella, an injectable formulated to melt away fat. This revolutionary treatment is designed specifically for the treatment of a double chin, which is usually treated with traditional liposuction and/or Ultherapy skin tightening. However, with its recent approval by the FDA to treat chin fat, Kybella brings many benefits to our patients who would like to improve their turkey neck appearance safely and with little to no down time.

What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is a prescription medication approved by the FDA for the treatment of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), intended to improve or eliminate entirely the appearance of this double chin effect. (It is not yet known if Kybella® is safe and effective for Chevy Chase cosmetic dermatology patients under the age of 18, nor for use outside of the submental area.)

How does Kybella® work?

With all credit to its main active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, that’s how. Naturally occurring in the body, its main purpose is to aid in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat, and so when injected directly into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella® causes the destruction of errant fat cells. And once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.

How soon can Chevy Chase Cosmetic Center patients treated with Kybella® expect to see results?

The specific cosmetic dermatology needs of each Chevy Chase Cosmetic Center patient vary, and so there’s no hard and fast answer here, but most will notice visible results in two to four treatment sessions, spaced no less than one month apart. (Up to six treatment sessions can be administered — again, spaced no less than one month apart.)

What are the most common side effects of Kybella®?

Some patients have reported swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. And in some rare cases, Kybella® can cause serious side effects, including trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness.
